Garbha sanskar is a Sanskrit term and an important ayurvedic practice. Garbha means a Foetus who is in the womb i.e. garbhashaya, & Sanskar means culture. Garbha Sanskar therefore means instilling culture or values in the fetus. According to age old Indian wisdom a child's mental and behavioural development begins at the moment he / she is conceived in the mother's womb. Hence, a child's personality starts to form in the womb itself and it can be influenced by the mother's state of mind and body during pregnancy. As a simple example, if the mother is on a wrong diet, it affects the baby's growth adversely.
The Garbha sanskar procedure actually starts even before conception. To conceive a healthy baby that gets good genes of both the parents, it is necessary for both the partners to undergo Panchakarma. This purification of the body ensures that the good genes become dominant. The enhancement in the mother's health augurs well for the baby too.
Garbha sanskar starts after conceiving, and includes the following points:
Balanced Diet
Ayurvedic Medicines
Auspicious Mantras
Yoga and Meditation
Garbha sanskar includes taking care of the baby post delivery, and post natal health of the mother. Some of the most basic obstacles to conception are- Inability to assess the fertile period due to irregular cycles, recurrent urinary tract or other infections. The causes of infertility are pathological or disease in the genital system in the male or female. PCOD, uterine fibroids, tubal block are common causes of infertility. In males, azoospermia and hormonal disturbance can be the leading cause. Underlying medical conditions like anemia, hormonal disorders, thyroid conditions or obesity can also cause infertility.
Conception is the process of the union of the sperm and ovum, which then gets implanted into the uterus. To assess the fertile period - the few days before, during and after ovulation are a woman's "fertile period" - the time when she can become pregnant. The ovum is released from the ovaries every month at a certain time in the menstrual cycle.
One of the most common reasons for the not conceiving, in the absence of a diagnosable medical condition is when either or both partners are working with hectic schedules, are under stress and also have a lack of sleep and lack of good nutrition. This can bring the desire to intercourse down, resulting in a hormonal and chemical imbalance in the body. It is important that both the partners are relaxed, and not feel tenser with the pressure of wanting to conceive.
Ayurvedic treatment has a proven track record of increasing fertility. Ayurveda prescribes a holistic combination of diet, medicines and lifestyle in achieving a couple's desired goal. Coupled with Garbha sanskar for the healthy growth of foetus, the hallowed tradition of Ayurveda has proven a blessing to many a couples seeking cure from infertility.
